By the way, I've since learned that the Gailly book has been translated into English- An Evening at the Club. It's interesting- very French in its appreciation of Evans, as well as in its mood and style. For me, not an altogether successful novel mainly because it wanders off-subject, or at least off the subject I was interested in.
